WILLIAMSBURG - A 65-year-old harvest tradition at Prizler Farms in Williamsburg keeps Harvey Prizler and his sons busy throughout the month of October.
"We've been harvesting corn and beans and keeping the wheels turning,” said Harvey Prizler, owner of Prizler Farms.
This year, a combination of wet and dry weather made for an interesting season for corn and soybean farmers.
"Spring started real well. It got wet a little later on and delayed the bean planting, but most of the corn was in at that time,” Harvey Prizler said.
In fact, Prizler says yields are actually higher than anticipated.
"Yields are a lot better than what we expect. The yields are good and the price is pretty fair, too,” Harvey Prizler said.
For Prizler Farms, it's a family affair in the fields. Father and sons work together to harvest their 160,000 bushels of corn and 25,000 bushels of soybeans.
"Right now we're picking beans and then we're going to change to corn once we get it all done,” Travis Prizler said.
The Prizlers hope to clear their land by the end of the month, finishing another year in their farm family tradition.
"You take the good with the bad. There are some days you can just throw your hands up and walk away. But then there's a lot of other days you enjoy being here,” Harvey Prizler said.
