Duane R. Ammeter, 84 of rural Anamosa, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, of a sudden illness. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date, and his ashes will be interred in the timber of his favorite hunting spot.

Duane Roy Ammeter was born on Feb. 15, 1934, in Delaware County, Iowa, the son of Albert "Bert" and Blanche (Aldrich) Ammeter. He attended country schools in Delaware County, graduating from Manchester High School in 1951. On Nov. 8, 1956, he was united in marriage with Janet Lindemier. They later divorced. He was employed as a laborer and machine operator at Wilson Foods/Farmstead for 35 years until his retirement in 1990, when the plant closed. He served his country in the Iowa National Guard for 11 years.

Survivors include five children: Susan (Dennis) Martin of Fayette; David (Kathy) of rural Anamosa; Danny (friend Connie) of Floyd; Lori (Bryan) Coster of Marion and Michael of Anamosa; his brother, Darwin of Cedar Rapids; sister, Sandy (Ron) Scott) of Brighton; and brother-in-law, Merle Henderson of Coggon. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jennifer Noe, Melissa Noe, Kristina Martin, Alex Martin and Kennedy Ammeter; and a great-granddaughter, Ainsleigh Chambers whom he adored.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Verla Henderson.

Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He also liked cheering on the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a member of the Anamosa Bowhunters Club.

Duane was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
