Kevin Francis Mackey, 61, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ely and Palo, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with Chaplain Joe Kane presiding. Burial will follow in
Rogers Grove Cemetery, near Ely.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Brosh Chapel.
Kevin was born Oct. 12, 1954, in Ely, the son of Robert and Lois (Miller) Mackey. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, Class of 1973. He was united in marriage to Kathy Dubishar on April 19, 1980. Kevin was an over-the-road truck driver for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports, especially NASCAR and the Hawkeyes, as well as spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Kevin is survived by his children, Gary (Sara) Mackey of Wichita, Kan., and Crystal Adams and Matt (Theresa) Mackey, both of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Hailee, Channing, Zion, Anquan, Leah, Zaila, Carlie and Braxton; his siblings, Terry (Jan) Mackey of Ely, Kathy (Bill) Osborn of Ely and Janice (Mark) Heathman of Swisher; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents and an infant brother, Gary.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Mercy and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House for their loving care for Kevin and his family.
