Myers, Gerald C. 'Jerry'
Gerald C. “Jerry” Myers, 78, of 1119 Crestview Dr. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at his home after a long illness. Memorial services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where there also will be military rites. The Rev. Nick Longworth will officiate. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Myrna; three sisters, Betty Bruncheon of Charles City, Helen McCalley of Hudson, and Lavone Meechan of Santee, Calif.; sons, Steven (Marie) Myers and Stan (Lynn) Myers, all of Arizona, and Stuart (Paula) Myers of Virginia; sons, Stephen Sandquist and Jon (Jean) Sandquist, all of Minnesota, Rob (Todd Pope) Sandquist of Cedar Rapids; and a daughter, Julie (Kyle Birkemeyer) Cole of Minnesota.
He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Don, Bob, Alvin and Ivan; and two sisters, Grace and Dorothy.
Jerry was born on Dec. 3, 1933, in Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Chauncey and Bertha Myers. He married Myrna L. Bixby on Feb. 13, 1982 in Cedar Rapids. Jerry was a lab tech at Rockwell and retired from there after many years of service. After retirement, he worked part time at Fareway Foods. Jerry was a veteran and proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
