Hoppe, Albert Lee
Albert Lee Hoppe, 94, of Greenville, S.C., and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Born in Wroxton, Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the son of the late Charles P. and Georgia A. Stansbury Hoppe.
Mr. Hoppe was retired from Cryovac and a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church, where he was a Deacon, Elder, teacher and faithful choir member. He was a United States veteran, having served during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of Order of the Eastern Star #288, where he served as treasurer and Past Patron, the Scottish Rite, where he served as General Secretary, the Wade Hampton Masonic Lodge #404, where he was Past Master, and the American Legion Post #5, Cedar Rapids.
Surviving are two sons, Retired Colonel Allen B. Hoppe (USAF) and wife Lynn, of San Antonio, Texas, and John R. Hoppe, of Greenville, and fiance, Dawn Daignault, of Penn.; one brother, Harold G. Hoppe of Fort Mitchell, Ky., two grandchildren, Barbara Ellen Hoppe, of Yellowstone National Park, Wyo., and Travis Allen (Juliette) Hoppe of Aberdeen, Wash., and five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, “Pop” was preceded in death by his loving spouse of 70 years, Vivian Bruce Hoppe, whom he met while both working at Hutchinson Ice Cream Company, Cedar Rapids; and brothers, Arling, Claude and Walter Hoppe.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Medi-Home Hospice and the nurses and Respiratory Therapists of the ICU unit of St. Francis, Eastside, for their skillful and caring assistance.
