Franck, Larry Lee Sr.
Larry Lee Franck Sr., 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at his home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Randy Kasch and Chaplain Joe Kane, with military honors. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Larry (Penny) Franck Jr., Connie (John) Varner, Brian (Debbie) Franck and Michelle (Scott) Klinkkammer, all of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (fiancee, Kate Spunt) Franck, Allison Franck, Nicole Werling, Jarred Johnston, Mary Varner, Corey Franck, Zachary Franck, Brennan Franck, Jessica Klinkkammer, Katie Klinkkammer and Matthew Klinkkammer; his siblings, Diane Franck, Gale Franck, Terry Lown, Lori Franck, David (Maxine) Franck, Dale (Nancy) Franck and Dennis (Conni) Franck, all of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Don Vanous of Rowley, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Barb Hill of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Sharon Dziewanowski of Urbana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Nancy Snodgrass, Penny Vanous and Gloria Franck; and three brothers, Dean (Ruth) Franck, Paul Franck and Calvin Franck.
Larry was born June 8, 1942, the son of Perry and Louise (Strait) Franck, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On June 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carol Hill at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She died March 3, 2008. Larry served with the United States Navy from 1960 to 1966. For 42 years, he worked for the City of Cedar Rapids Landfill.
An avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan, Larry also enjoyed bowling and gambling. He was a member of the American Legion Hanford Post 5.
The family extends a special thank you to chaplain Joe Kane; hospice nurses, Jennifer Hohneke and Krissy Klocek; massage therapist, Kelly Linden; social worker, Sarah Jordan; Dr. Wiesenfeld and the staff at Oncology Associates; and Dr. Julia Sterling.
