Bliss, Donald Eugene

Donald Eugene Bliss, 92, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at the Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa. Family will greet friends from1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private family graveside services will be held.

Survivors include his daughters, Judy McNamara of Blue Grass and Jean Bliss of Olin; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Shannon (Mike) Benson of Jesup, and their children, Jaryd and Haleigh; and Erin (Darin) Thomas of Muscatine, and their children, Mac and Amelia; and four stepchildren, Harry Simonsen of Marion, Weaver (Margaret) Simonsen of San Diego, Calif., Narda Murphy of Williamston, Mich., and Phyllis (Sam) Curtis of Morristown, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; four brothers, Albert, Harold, Merle and Jack; and two sisters, Alice Turner and Blanche Betenbender.

Donald was born May 31, 1919, in Central City, the son of Chester and Julia (Danford) Bliss. He married Dorothy Marie Paul on March 5, 1947. She died Sept. 25, 1990. He then married Pauline Simonsen, who died in 2000. Donald was a World War II Army Veteran, serving during the Pacific Theater. He was a lifelong farmer in Linn and Jones counties.
