Calvin Russell Hopson, 89, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at his home. Visitation: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Valley View Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughters, Candyce (Patrick) Lambert of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Peggy (Jeff) Sheetz of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Keith Lambert, Kerry (Paul) Hill, Benjamin Sheetz and Joseph Sheetz.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Dell Rorabaugh; stepfather, Frank Rorabaugh; and father, George Hopson.
Calvin was born July 11, 1927, in Des Moines, the son of George and Anna Dell (Sullivan) Hopson. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. On Oct. 18, 1953, in Sioux Falls, S.D., he married Joanne Reemtsma. Calvin worked for the state of Iowa as a social worker for 31 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Valley View Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. Calvin loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
