Meyer, Floyd H.

Floyd Henry Meyer, 91, originally of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2013, at Sunshine Villa in Santa Cruz, Calif. Floyd was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Emma and Harry Meyer.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an ensign in the Navy. He graduated from Coe College with a B.A. in mathematics and then received his master's degree in engineering from the University of Iowa. He served as a professor at the University of Iowa Engineering School for 30 years. He also taught at Kirkwood Community College.

He was a lifelong member of Olivet Presbyterian Church and also a member of Christ Presbyterian with his late wife, Gladys. He was a member of Tuesday Noon Optimists and the Solon Veterans Association.

He loved to travel and garden and above all else, spend time with family. He achieved his goal of his children traveling to all 48 contiguous states.

Floyd was preceded in death by his younger brother, George Meyer, who was killed in World War II; and his wife, Gladys Meyer, who was the love of his life.

He is survived by his three children from a previous marriage, Amelia Warner (Gene) of Solon, Mark Meyer of Cedar Rapids and Melody Meyer of Soquel, Calif. His nine grandchildren, Devin Morrison, Becky Harris, Matthew Post, Matt Warner, Kurt Warner, Ted Meyer, Harry Meyer, Lisa Conrad and Amelia Meyer were his delight. Floyd's 12 great-grandchildren also carry on his legacy of love.

Floyd spent his last years living with his daughter, Amelia and son-in-law Gene in Solon during the summers and winters with his daughter, Melody, enjoying the sun and spirit of Santa Cruz, Calif.

We were blessed by his twinkling smile and gentle spirit. He was kind and loving beyond words. Everyone who knew him adored him. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial will be held in Cedar Rapids at Olivet Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. July 19, with a private burial service later that day.
