Margaret "Peg" Ann Weno, 81, of Iowa City, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the Mercy Foundation.
Peg was born June 16, 1933, in Iowa City, the daughter of John and Alice Mickle Canney. She graduated from Mercy Nursing School in 1955 and spent most of her career as an obstetrics nurse at Mercy Iowa City, retiring in 1997. Peg married John Weno on Oct. 19, 1955, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. John died in 1971.
She is survived by her children, Barb (Brian) Schoenjahn, Jim (Michele) Weno and Deb (Mike) Wynn; grandchildren, Ashley (Jordan) Bergus, Greg Weno and fiancee Sarah Hale, Erin Weno and Amy Wynn; and great-grandson, Bentley Wynn.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brothers, Jack, Robert and Don; sisters, Zita Lillig and Darlene Brejcha; and nieces and nephews, Char Canney, Tim Canney, Jim Lillig and Tom Brejcha.
