Ex-Hawkeye Maurice Fleming saves game for West Virginia

Sep. 26, 2016 11:43 am
Many times, players transfer from Iowa and aren't heard from again.
That isn't the case with defensive back Maurice Fleming, who left the Hawkeyes in April and went to West Virginia as a graduate transfer.
Fleming intercepted a tipped pass with one minute left, securing a 35-32 win for the Mountaineers over BYU at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.
'We just came together and we made a play,' Fleming said. 'We had been talking all week in practice about how we get a lot of tipped balls and how we've got to get our hands on them.'
Fleming, from Chicago, started West Virginia's first game, but was replaced in the starting lineup the next week. He played most of the second half for the 3-0 Mountaineers Saturday because starter Antonio Crawford was injured.
The interception was Fleming's first as a collegian. He also had a career-high seven tackles.
