Thomas John "Tommy" Scholtus, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his home. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Tommy was born in Chicago on Dec. 17, 1942, the son of Nic and Josie Scholtus.
Tommy will be remembered for his love of music and his loyalty as a diehard Chicago Cubs fan.
He loved his family and all the friends he made at Cedar Rapids Greenhouses, where he worked for nearly 40 years.
Tommy is survived by his mother, Josie Scholtus; a sister, Carol (Mike) Duggan; a niece, Erin (Lee) Hoeger; a nephew, Nic (Beth) Duggan; and two great-nephews, Tony and Nic Hoeger, all of Cedar Rapids; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nic Scholtus, and sister, Marsha Scholtus.
Memorial donations may be given to the Arc of East Central Iowa and Above and Beyond Hospice.
