Lake Mills man killed after bicycle crashes into animal

A bicyclist was killed June 30 in rural Johnson County after he crashed into an animal that in the roadway.
According to a release from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, the Joint Emergency Communications Center received a report of a bicycle crash on June 30 at 1:28 p.m. The accident happened in the 2300 block of Sugar Bottom Road, according to the release.
Police say Franklin Dahn, 70, of Lake Mills, was riding his bicycle down a hill when he struck an animal in the roadway, causing him to crash.
Dahn was flown to the University of Iowa Hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to the release. Police say Dahn was wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the accident.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Solon Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance and AirCare responded to this incident.
