Phyllis A. Dolphin, 88, of Cascade, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Phyllis may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 2 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade. Services for Phyllis will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at St. Martin's Catholic Church with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
She was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Cascade, Iowa, the daughter of William L. and Florence (Dunn) Kauder. She received her education in St. Martin's Catholic School. On July 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to John "Skip" Dolphin. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1966. The couple owned and operated Dolphin's Corner for many years and she later worked at the Cascade Pioneer and Supper Club 528 in Cascade.
She was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan. Phyllis was also an avid Cascade Cougar fan and was her grandchildren's biggest fan. She never missed any of their sporting events. She enjoyed bowling, going to daily Mass, coffee with her friends and walking with her friend, Maurna. Phyllis loved to travel. She traveled twice to Hawaii and New York City to see the New York Yankees play at the old Yankee Stadium a few days before it closed.
She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade. Phyllis was also treasurer for the Tri-County Historical Society.
She is survived by six children, Gary (Cindy) Dolphin of Peosta, Herb (Mary Kay) Dolphin of Cascade, Bonnie (Allan) Pape of East Dubuque, Ill., Colleen (Larry) Kramer of Green Oaks, Ill., Terri (Gary) Kleitsch of Cascade and Scott (JaDee) Dolphin of Milwaukee, Wis.; 14 grandchildren, Neil (Amanda) Dolphin, Nicki (Dan) Shannon and Tracy (Mark) Conrad, Brandon Pape, Aaron (Danielle) Kramer, Jordan and McKenzie Kramer, Jessica (Ryan) Sweet, Christopher (JoAnn) Kleitsch, Maggie (Eli) Hunerdosse, Katie (Jon) Ricciotti and Timmie (special friend Bridget Merritt) Kleitsch and Kylie and Sam Dolphin; 13 great-grandchildren, Raelyn and Madilyn Dolphin, Casey, Molly and Cole Shannon, Will and Emily Conrad, Noah, Connor and Karlyn Sweet, Addy Kleitsch, Bella and Bria Hunderdosse and baby Kramer due in January; two sisters, Lois (John) Sullivan and Nancy (Richard) Sullivan, both of Cascade; five sisters-in-law, Rita Kauder and Joan Kauder, both of Cascade, Diane Kauder of Dubuque, Carol Dolphin of Cascade and Mary (Tom) Ipsan of Mount Vernon; one brother-in-law, Corky Dolphin of Cascade; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Timothy P. Dolphin, on Nov. 4, 1989; three brothers, Fred, Kenneth "P.J." and William "W.J." Kauder; one sister, Jacquie (Lavern) Lambert; one sister-in-law, Becky Dolphin; and one brother-in-law, Dave Dolphin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Matthias Parish or Camp Courageous in memory of Phyllis Dolphin.
The family of Phyllis would like to thank the staff of Shady Rest Care Center and Sherry Kelchen ARNP of Medical Associates for all the wonderful care and compassion they gave to Phyllis.
