Letter: Raise golf rates to generate more money

The city is struggling with an annual loss of about $350,000 for the four golf courses they operate.
They also have approximately 100,000 rounds played each year. Why don't you raise the rate by $5 a round, even for the annual pass holders? That should generate $500,000 a year unless you don't generate about the same volume of rounds, which I doubt. If the number of rounds drops off drastically, then sell the courses.
There is no way the taxpayers should subsidize the golfers and this is from a former golfer.
I find the discussion of how to subsidize golf a little troubling when we can't subsidize our education system adequately.
