Sheryl was born at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids on July 22, 1944, to Jesse and Helen (Plesek) Baker. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1963, and married Richard Cibula that same year.
After marriage, the couple lived for six years in Waterloo, then made their home on the family farm near Vining. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren, with whom she loved to do artwork and share her love for the outdoors.
She loved gardening, fishing and hunting wild raspberries and mushrooms. She enjoyed baking and playing cards with her many friends. She was a wonderful homemaker and farm wife, enjoying helping her husband with the livestock.
Sheryl worked for the Belle Plaine Nursery, as well as the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel as supervisor of laundry services. The employees there still speak fondly of her.
She was a member of the Rosary Societies of St. Mary's, Vining, and St. Joseph's, Chelsea, and the Vining CSA.
Sheryl is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard; daughter, Cynthia (Russell) VanDee; son, Joseph Cibula; daughter, Dr. Susan (Dr. Jason) Simon; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brian VanDee and Nathan and Sarah Simon; brothers, Lyle (Pam) and Tom Baker; sisters-in-law, Pauline Baker and Duane and Barbara Cibula, along with several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Snoopy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Keith Baker; father- and mother-in-law, Melvin and Maxine Cibula; and several aunts and uncles.
