BURLINGTON - The Cedar Rapids Kernels spotted Burlington a four-run lead Wednesday night, tried to make it up with a seventh-inning rally but lost to the Bees, 4-2, in a Midwest League game at Community Field.
Randal Grichuk doubled in a run in the seventh for the Kernels, then scored on a passed ball to make it 4-2. But successive fly-ball outs snuffed that rally.
The Kernels were held to five hits. Burlington had 10, with nine of those coming against starter Pilljoon Jang (1-5) in the six innings he worked.
With 19 games remaining in the second half of the season, the Kernels trail Clinton by seven games for the final postseason playoff berth.
