Leinen, Lorraine Ann
Lorraine Ann Leinen, 86, of Onslow, Iowa, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a courageous battle with health issues.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa.
Lorraine was born to Albert and Bertha (Kammerman) Schmidt on Sept. 18, 1925, at home near Monticello. She graduated from Onslow High School in 1943. She married Donald Chris Leinen on June 23, 1948, in a double ring ceremony with her sister, Alberta Schmidt and Lawrence Willey, at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. Donald died on April 7, 1994.
She worked for Onslow Savings Bank for 38 years, at Onslow Cooperative Telephone Company for 28 years, and Midland High School as Treasurer.
She was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church, Wyoming, and its Quilting Group, and the Kozy Cotton Club in Onslow for many years.
She served on the board of the Onslow Area Housing Corporation for 14 years and helped on the Elections Board in Onslow for many years.
She is survived by one daughter, Julie (Mike) Fall of Anamosa; and one son, Jeff (Sandra) Leinen of Corpus Christi, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jeremy and Josh (Brittany) Fall, Kelsey, Chris, Jacob, Shaun and Marina Leinen; one great-grandson, Drew Fall; one sister, Alberta (Lawrence) Willey of Anamosa; sisters-in-law, Verna Schmidt Parham and Marilyn Schmidt, both of Anamosa, and Jean Schmidt of Springville; and one brother-in-law, Howard (Shelby) Leinen of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Richard, Kenneth and Russell Schmidt; and brothers-in-law, Robert (Virginia) Leinen, George (Esther) Anderson and Loren (Wilma) Lycke.
A memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to thank Above and Beyond and the Onslow Community for all the loving care so Lorraine could live out her wish of staying in her own home.
