Dr. Janine 'Jennie' Davis
DR. JANINE "JENNIE" A. DAVIS
Iowa City
At dawn on Nov. 21, 2015, Janine "Jennie" Anne Davis (nee Schmidt), peacefully ascended into paradise. An Iowa native, Jennie earned her B.S. from the University of Iowa and her Ph.D. from Northwestern University. She was an accomplished molecular biologist and served over 20 years in the federal government at the National Institutes of Health, where she specialized in eye research and received the 2013 Director's Award. She was also a phenomenal baker and seamstress. She volunteered with the Baltimore City Master Gardeners and loved to garden with all her kitties. She was deeply funny and generous and just an awesome mom and friend.
In Baltimore, she leaves behind husband, George E. Davis; daughters, Grace K. Davis and Claire S. Davis and Claire's partner; and Jen's "son," Walker D. Teret. Her Iowa family includes her mother, Suzanne Schmidt; and late father, George Schmidt; twin sister, Kathy Phelan; sister, Susan Schmidt; and brother, Steve Schmidt.
Jennie was a true warrior and an exceptional person. She will be with us always. At Jennie's request, guests attending her service are encouraged to wear cheerful colors.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at the family owned Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home Inc., 6500 York Rd. (at Overbrook Road), Baltimore, MD 21212. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, in the Towson United Methodist Church, 501 Hampton Lane, Dulaney Valley Road (Exit 27N), Towson, MD 21286. Interment in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Rd., Timonium, MD 21093.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Baltimore Humane Society, 1601 Nicodemus Rd., Reisterstown, MD 21136.
