Schmidt, Cleo Joanne
Cleo was born Aug. 18, 1928, to Hugo and Emma Steffen of Cedar County. She spent her childhood years on the family farm, later moving to Tipton, Iowa, and graduating from Tipton High School in 1946. She thereafter moved to Cedar Rapids to attend and graduate from cosmetology school. She met her husband, Arthur Schmidt and they married in 1949. Predominately a homemaker throughout the rest of her life, she and Arthur raised four children.
Cleo was a talented cook and seamstress, as well as a skilled bowler, where she participated in several women's and mixed leagues and served as an officer. She was active with husband Arthur in volunteer activities with the handicapped. She attended St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
