EDWARD CHARLES WENO
Iowa City
Edward Charles Weno, 87, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Briarwood Health Care Center.
Ed was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Johnson County, Iowa, one of four children to Louis and Ida (Pirkl) Weno. Ed graduated from University High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea in 1952-53. He attended the University of Iowa and worked at Procter and Gamble until his retirement in 1992. On Nov. 25, 1961, he married Jane Weno (Ruppenkamp). Together they raised four children. After retirement, "Pa" loved spending time with his beloved wife and grandchildren, fishing in northeast Iowa with his brother and winning money at the casino.
Ed is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane of Iowa City; and brother, Jim of Solon; his four children, Michael Weno (Kristine Zehr and former wife Barbara) of Cedar Falls, Charles (Nancy and her daughter, Lauren Greif) of Iowa City, Katherine of Iowa City and Steven (Martha) of Sartell, Minn.; and four grandchildren, Emily Rodriquez Weno (Jonnathan) of St. Louis, Mo., Benjamin Weno of West Des Moines, and Matthew and Sarah Weno of Sartell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; and sister, Mary Ann Blossfeld.
A longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary's. Private burial will be in the older section of St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City.
Instead of flowers and plants, the family requests that memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice or St. Mary's Church. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is handling arrangements.
