Wishniewsky, Arvada Mae
Arvada Mae Wishniewsky, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 2, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center. Service: 1 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Beth Harbaugh. Interment: Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax. A visitation will be held on Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. and after noon on Thursday.
The daughter of John Jerome and Anna (Swenka) Buresh, Arvada was born May 10, 1919, in Fairfax, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1936 and attended Hamilton Business College. She married Bolek B. Wishniewsky in Austin, Texas on March 14, 1945.
She began her working life in 1937 at Mitvalsky Furs, and later worked at National Oats and Square D. She then began working as a legal secretary for Tom Collins at Shuttleworth and Ingersoll in the early 1960s. She was a dedicated employee and continued working until her retirement in 1993, at age 74. She stayed in touch with many former co-workers through her later years.
Arvada was a quilter and accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed gardening and collected P. Buckley Moss prints. She was the mainstay of her high school graduating class, organizing many Roosevelt class reunions. She was very dedicated to her family and hosted many extended family gatherings over the years.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Wishniewsky (Monique) of El Cerrito, Calif. and Craig Wishniewsky of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Gail Gehring (Jeff) of Lenexa, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Jasmine Rios (Jaime), San Diego, Calif., Lindsay Gehring, Lenexa, Kan., Ryan Gehring, San Francisco, Calif., and Jamie Gehring, Manhattan, Kan. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, James and Rebecca Rios, San Diego, Calif.; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Ernest and Robert Buresh; and sisters, Grace Selzer and Ruth Buresh.
The family would like to thank the staff of Home Choice Senior Care, especially Donna and Sonya, and Mercy Medical Center Emergency Room and Intensive Care staff.
She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
