McMillen, Eldon D.
Eldon D. McMillen, 80, of 3055 10th Ave., Marion, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at his home, with his family by his side, following a short illness with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Mike Morgan. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Pat of Marion; his children, Cris (Daniel) Cosman of Marion, Curt McMillen of New York, N.Y., and Lisa (Kent) Boese of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Cory Cosman of Marion and Joshua (Bethanie) Cosman of Iowa City; and one sister, Cozette (Don) Caldwell of Hiawatha. Also surviving are many loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Eldon was born Feb. 23, 1930, the son of Clark and Marieva (Chesmore) McMillen, in Quasqueton, Iowa. He married Patricia Von Sprecken on June 28, 1953, at First United Methodist Church of Marion. Eldon owned the Suburban Restaurant for many years. He was a longtime land developer and most recently was part of Prairie Hill Development Co.
Eldon was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Marion and had served on several committees: founding member of Marion Economic Development Co.(MEDCO), Marion Evening Kiwanis Club, and board member of Marion Churches Senior Living Foundation. He was also former president and longtime member of the Marion Chamber of Commerce. Eldon served as the treasurer of the Marion Independent School District. He was the owner of the 7th Avenue East Plaza and former president of AFS which hosted foreign exchange students. Eldon served six years with the Army Reserves.
A memorial fund has been established in Eldon's memory.
