Flickinger, Bernita E.
Bernita E. Flickinger, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with the Rev. Stephen K. Preus officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Bernita was born Sept. 9, 1930, in rural Benton County to Herman and Adelia (Schminke) Alpers. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton, with the class of 1948.
On Dec. 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Harold Flickinger at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. Harold preceded Bernita in death on Dec. 5, 2012.
She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Bernita worked as a clerk for the Benton County Treasurer's Office for nearly 20 years.
She is survived by her children, Teresa (George) Vopelak of Dysart and Craig Flickinger of Vinton; her grandchildren, Derek (Tammy) Vopelak of Dysart and Josh (Ali) Volante of Clutier; her great-grandsons, Clayton and Coleton Vopelak; sister, Goldie (Don) Shaffer of Vinton; her sister-in-law, Lauretta Petersen of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bernita was preceded in death by her sisters, Hazel Alpers, Ruby Huppert and Rachel Butts.
