Houck, Henry Coburn 'Cobe'
Henry Coburn “Cobe” Houck, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Military services will be conducted by the Iowa National Guard.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Aline; three daughters, Mary (James) Klinger, Kaye (John) O'Deen and Penny (Roger Mrstik); stepdaughter, Bernice Farley; two sons, John Henry Houck and Garry D-Wight Houck, all of Cedar Rapids; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Elizabeth Selby, Kathleen Bailey, and Evelyn ”Bill” Wheeler, all of Ashland, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and seven brothers-in-law.
Henry was born May 31, 1925, to John and Goldie Houck in Ashland, Ky., and was married to Aline Sparks on Oct. 7, 1948. He was a World War II veteran and awarded the Purple Heart. Henry retired from Cherry Burrell after 39 years. He was a member of First Church of the Open Bible.
Henry was a soft-spoken man who loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
