Letter: Increase penalty for committing a crime

The prostitution problem in Iowa has moved from the streets to online, but still is prevalent in our community.
Prostitutes are predators spreading disease in our community and this puts the young and poor at risk. It seems the cops and lawmakers are being hypocritical and are not protecting our community from this danger. If we can't be hard on prostitutes in case they are being forced into prostitution, we should at least be serious with punishing the customers severely in any way with enhanced penalties. Enhanced penalties will give higher priority to this crime and get the cops' and criminals' attention and rid our community of this historic problem.
