Pair of Detroit defensive ends pick the Hawkeyes

The zero-to-60 mph nature of recruiting can turn on a dime.
Going into Monday afternoon, the Hawkeyes hadn't had a commitment since Jan. 25, when running back Toren Young (Monona Grove, Wis.) picked the Hawkeyes. Safe to say, the fan base was primed for some commitments.
A pair of defensive ends from East English Village High School (Detroit, Mich.), the same high school that produced junior cornerback Desmond King, said yes to Iowa.
According to their coach, Rod Oden, Cedrick Lattimore and Chauncey Golston committed to the Hawkeyes on Monday, when they made their second unofficial visit to Iowa City.
Lattimore and Golston made the trip with their parents and told Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker before leaving campus.
'Toward the middle of my visit I knew this was the school for me,” Lattimore told HawkeyeReport.com Monday. 'They had my best interests at heart. While we were on the visit I told my mom and Chauncey told his mom. We were just like, ‘Look, this is the school for us.'
'Toward the end we were sitting in the office and my mom said, ‘Cedrick has something to tell you guys.' We told them we would like to commit to the University of Iowa. (Parker) picked me up off my feet, so it was exciting.”
'I had the vibe the first time I came on the first visit,” Golston said. 'On this visit we really talked to each other about it. It's the city, the coaches and I can just see myself here.”
Iowa was the lone offer for Golston, who had interest from Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Brown. Lattimore had six offers including Bowling Green, Ball State and Miami (Ohio).
Lattimore measured in 6-4, 251 pounds at the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour in Cleveland, Ohio, last month. Golston was 6-5, 235 pounds. Both are expected to play defensive end for the Hawkeyes.
'With my frame, they are going to put weight on me,” Golston said. 'He didn't say much about what they will do with me right now, but I'm sure we'll talk more about it later.”
Rivals.com midwest recruiting analyst on Golston's performance at the Cleveland combine: 'Golston not only looks the part physically, but he also brought a well-rounded game that resulted in a lot of one-on-one wins. An athletic defensive end who can play with length, Golston had a great burst and was able to employ second and third moves when his original route to the quarterback was cut off.”
Lattimore has shown playmaking ability on both sides of the ball at defensive end and tight end. 'I prefer defense if they let me choose, but wherever they need me is where I'll play really,” Lattimore said.
Just like that, Iowa double its commitment list for 2016. Golston and Lattimore joined Young and quarterback Nathan Stanley, who committed to Iowa last November. Stanley is rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com. Young is two-star. Golston and Lattimore have yet to be rated.
