Finnegan CHM, Sister Marie
Sister Marie Finnegan CHM, 86, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, Johnston, Iowa. Rosary and visitation will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, with the vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation at Humility of Mary Center, 820 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, with rosary at 4 p.m. and vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Humility of Mary Center, with burial following.
Theresa Finnegan, (Sister Marie) was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Keswick, Iowa, to John and Ellen (Lenaghan) Finnegan. On Jan. 31, 1943, she entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in Ottumwa, and professed vows in 1945. She received a B.A. in elementary education from Marycrest College, Davenport, and a MSE in curriculum and instruction from Drake University, Des Moines.
Sister Marie was an educator in schools in Iowa, Montana and Minnesota. In Des Moines she taught at St. Anthony and Christ the King schools and was principal at St. Joseph School. She later served as assistant CHM coordinator at Bishop Drumm Care Center.
Sister Marie is survived by a brother, Terry of Parnell, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and sisters and associates of her religious community.
