King, Mary Elizabeth
Mary Elizabeth King, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 26, 2010. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakland Cemetery, Solon. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Mary was born August 20, 1929, in Capitol Heights, Md., the daughter of John Stakes and Helen Genevieve Gibson Thomas. She married George William King Sr. on April 26, 1947, in Washington, D.C. She worked for many years at Grant Wood Area Education Agency, where she made many lasting friendships. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, collecting dolls and spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her children, David (Dawn) King of Shakopee, Minn., Nancy (Alan) Kennedy of Cedar Rapids, Richard (Aimee) King of Atkins, Joanne (Scott) Carbaugh of Cedar Rapids, and Robert (Elizabeth) King of Galesburg, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Bryan, Chris, Todd, Troy and Tara King, Jill (Mark) Cartano, Jane (Noel) Gardner, Thomas, Emily and Jaclyn King, and Jordan and Nathan Carbaugh; three stepgrandchildren, Emily, Ryan and Caitlin; and sisters, Jean (Harlan) Brumwell of Cedar Rapids, and Betty (Ray) Buchmayer of Solon; and one great-grandson Ryan Gardner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George William King Sr. on June 14, 1996; a son and daughter-in-law, George William “Bill” and Judith Mae King Jr.; and a brother, John Thomas.
