William J. “Bill” Truitt, 61, of Coralville, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
William Joseph Truitt was born April 6, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Edmund and Geraldine (Mohlis) Truitt. He went to schools in Burlington, graduating from West Burlington High School with the class of 1968. He then went on to attend South East Community College in Burlington. He moved to the Iowa City area nearly 37 years ago where he began a long career with McComas-Lacina Construction Co., retiring in the spring of 2008.
Bill supported his two boys in anything and everything they were involved in growing up and has continued that as they are adults. He enjoyed slow pitch softball for many years, liked to walk, and loved anything to do with the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs, a loyal and die-hard fan he was!
His family includes his two sons, Adam Truitt of North Liberty and Aaron Truitt and his wife, Hilarie, of Mount Vernon; a granddaughter, who was the twinkle in grandpa's eye, Alivia; Bill's brother and his wife, Darell and Marilyn Truitt of Iowa City; and Bill's former wife, Sandy Springsteen of Wapello.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, James, Randall and Thomas Truitt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bill's memory to Mercy Hospital Hospice, Iowa City Hospice or Mount Vernon Schools Booster Club.
