Shields seeking fourth term on Cedar Rapids City Council
Feb. 9, 2017 4:59 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Justin Shields will seek a fourth term on the Cedar Rapids City Council, he announced on Thursday.
Shields, 75, represents District 5 on the west side and serves as mayor pro tempore. The former Quaker Co. worker and labor union champion said the city needs to support population growth, homebuilding, senior housing and a multigenerational center with a senior center, recreation facilities and continuing education programs.
He also supports bringing a casino to Cedar Rapids and transforming a washed out area along the Cedar River's west side into a park.
Shields has not faced competition in the previous two elections, and no other candidates for the seat have declared for the Nov. 7 election.
The council has nine seats, including a mayor.
