Dickens, Shirley Ann
Shirley Ann Dickens, 69, of Marion, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Carol Sundberg will officiate. with inurnment in St. Paul's United Methodist Church columbarium.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Dickens of Marion; daughter, Lisa (Todd) Foley Luker of Clear Lake; stepchildren, Jenniffer Dickens of Marion and James (Wendy) Dickens of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Hadley and Henry Luker of Clear Lake; stepgrandchildren, Gabriel and James Dickens of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Joyce Brown of Kansas City, Mo., and Dorothy Lange of St. Joseph, Mo.; and a nephew, Jerry Lange of St. Joseph, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Lucille Evans.
Shirley was born July 7, 1940, in Albany, Mo., the daughter of Curtis and Lucille (Cutts) Evans. She married James William Dickens on July 27, 1981, in Cedar Rapids at Asbury United Methodist Church. She was previously married to Robert Foley, divorcing in 1978. She was employed with the Square D Co. in Cedar Rapids for 10 years and for Allstate Insurance Co. in Lexington, Ky., for 10 years.
Shirley was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and the Kum Disciples Sunday school Class at the church. She enjoyed bird watching, traveling in the motor home to Florida in early spring so she could get an early start on warm weather, and visiting and eating out with her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
