Welsh, Robert Eugene

Robert Eugene Welsh, 77, of Staples, Minn., passed away Dec. 10, 2013, at Lakewood Health System in Staples. A visitation was held at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples on Dec. 14. A memorial service is planned for April 2014 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Robert was born in Iowa City, Iowa on April 26, 1936, to Charles Jerome and Maude Z. (Wood) Welsh. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Robert served in the U.S. Army in Germany from Dec. 4, 1958, to Nov. 22, 1960. Robert was retired from a career in sales where most recently he sold home remodeling and windows.

He lived in Scottsdale, Ariz., for 25 years. Robert recently moved to Staples, Minn., to live with his daughter.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle L. Collum; brother, Chuck (Pat) Welsh; sister, Lois (Maury) Curtis; three grandchildren, Jessica (Josh) Lind, Klistie (Ryan) Shingledecker and M. Chase Collum; and seven great-grandchildren, Avalon Lange, Coryne Lange, Gage Lind, Eli, Jocelyn, Wyatt and Willow Shingledecker.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vera Maxine Welsh, Dorothy (Bob) Morris, Evelyn (Kenneth) Bierkamp and Jane Kramer; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Bierkamp, Maury Curtis, Bob Morris and Bud Nasinec.
