Mildred Mary (Benjamin) Stalkfleet, Mildred Mary (Benjamin) Stalkfleet
Mildred Mary (Benjamin) Stalkfleet, 85, of Iowa City, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City following a lengthy illness. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice Care of Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
Mildred was born in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 28, 1923, the daughter of Curtis and Helen Bucher Garnett. Mildred married Wayne Stalkfleet in 1941 and together they owned and operated Stalkfleet's Hideaway and Bait Shop in Iowa City until a short time after Wayne's death in 1970. Mildred went on to marry Alfred Benjamin at a later date. Mildred had many interests but was passionate about sewing. She also was very active in the community and was a member of the Women's Police Auxiliary.
Survivors include Alfred of North Liberty; her children, Paul (Nancy) Stalkfleet, Michael (Sheryl) Stalkfleet, Donnie (Michelle) Stalkfleet and Vicki Stalkfleet, all of Iowa City; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her first husband Wayne; her parents, Curtis and Helen; two sons, Richard and David; and two brothers, Don and Richard.
