Knibbe, Derek Curtis
Derek Curtis Knibbe, 14, of Arlington, passed away at home Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009. Funeral services for Derek will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the Manchester United Methodist Church. Family will greet friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, and one hour before services Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Derek was born Nov. 29, 1994, in Oelwein, the son of Steven Knibbe and Tracy Lynn Boardman. Derek attended eighth grade at Starmont.
Derek was active in football, track and baseball at Starmont. He volunteered at the library and Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. He detasseled corn for the first time this summer. Derek enjoyed hunting and studying Greek Mythology and history. He was active in 4H. He loved to work and help others.
Derek is survived by his mother, Tracy Boardman of Arlington; a brother, Dustin Boardman; two sisters, Emily Knibbe and Kristen Knibbe; grandparents, Larry Boardman and Glenn (Mary) Knibbe; aunts and uncles, Ronnie (Joan) Boardman, Lynne (Terry) Winch, Pam (Tom) Winch, Theresa (Steven) Durrett and Micheal Knibbe; and many cousins and friends.
Derek was preceded in death by his father, Steven Curtis Knibbe; a brother, Jeffrey Boardman; and his grandmother, Patricia Kay Boardman.
A memorial fund has been established in Derek's memory.
