Frederick, Collette D. Lewis

Collette D. Lewis Frederick, 83, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, in her Lisbon home. A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the First Federated Church in Lisbon by Pastor James Roberts. A private graveside service will be held in Lisbon Cemetery, after a light lunch.

Surviving Collette are her husband, Leo of Lisbon; two sons, Joel (Marj) of Brighton, Colo. and Jon (Lori) of Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter, Jane (Mark) Schein of Broomfield, Colo.; three grandchildren, Morgan (Justin) Stork of Ames, Sofia Turley-Frederick of Encinitas, Calif. and Kyle Frederick of Brighton, Colo.; a stepgrandchild, Lauchlan Pierce of Fredericksburg, Va.; a brother, Samuel B. (Delores) Lewis Jr. of Center Point; a sister, Laurel Lea Lewis of Center Point; several nieces and nephews; and scores of “adopted” family.

Preceding Collette in death were her parents and a brother, Lyle Lewis.

Collette was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Center Point, the daughter of Samuel B. and G. Leone Rawson Lewis. She graduated from Center Point High School and Coe College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. She taught in Boxholm, Iowa and the Cedar Rapids Public School System for five years. Collette married Leo Frederick July 29, 1956, at Center Point. Collette taught private piano and instrumental lessons from her home for many years.

She was a member of the First Federated Church in Lisbon where she served in various capacities including choir director, Sunday school teacher, the Ladies Guild, Vacation Bible School and the quilting/sewing group. She volunteered her time with the American Legion Auxiliary, Linn Ladies, 4-H Clubs, Lisbon History Center and was a member of the Mu Phi Epsilon professional music fraternity.

Collette was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She instilled a love of music in her children and students that has lasted a lifetime. She enjoyed baking goodies for family and friends. She quickly welcomed new families from church and the community into her home for fellowship. Her greatest joy was spoiling her grandchildren with baked goods, gifts and mostly her love. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Collette's honor may be given to: Mu Phi Epsilon professional music fraternity at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, The Lisbon History Center or the Missionary Fund at First Federated Church, Lisbon.
