NORMA JEAN KIRBY "TOBIE"
Cedar Rapids
Norma Jean Kirby "Tobie," 92, of Cedar Rapids died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at the Woodlands of the Meth-Wick Community following a battle with Alzheimer's. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. Jack Flaherty. Burial: St. Joesph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday
at Teahen Funeral Home and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday before the service at the church.
Norma is survived by her children, Debbie Kirby, Randy (Rose) Kirby, Sandy (Jim) Williams and Jeff (Valerie) Kirby; grandchildren, Creston (Brianna) Williams and Nick Gerken; also great-grandchild, Brayden Williams; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband in 1982; and her sisters, Ruth Theoes, Mable Smith and Ernestine Wheeless.
Norma was born April 18, 1925, to Ernest and Magdelena (Gouler) Talmadge, in Hopkinton, Iowa. She graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1943 and went on to marry the love of her life, James Edward Kirby, on June 10, 1947. Before her marriage, she was employed at Collins Radio. Then her family became her focus. She spent most of her life raising her family with God as her guide. After her family was grown, she returned to the workforce. Some of her employers include Diamond V Mills and the Nurses Station. But her most memorable job was providing daycare for her grandson, Creston. Those two always had a very special bond.
Active in her church, she was also part of the "Young at Heart" group. When she wasn't busy being a mother and wife, she enjoyed being outside, most often in her flower garden. Norma loved flowers, rabbits and birds. She especially loved the song and beauty of the cardinal.
Love Ya Miss Ya mom!
