Bellingham, Wash.
Shirley (Rummells) Mathes, 95, passed away in Bellingham, Wash., on Sept. 3, 2014. A graveside
service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City, followed by a memorial service at Zion Lutheran Church beginning at 2 p.m. Those attending the graveside service can meet at the cemetery office and be directed to the grave in procession just before 1 p.m.

Shirley was born April 3, 1919, on the family farm near West Branch, daughter of William H. and Mable (Endsley) Rummells. She graduated from high school in Iowa City. On Sept. 1, 1939, she married R.W. "Bill" Mathes in Glendale, Calif. He preceded her in death June 11, 2005.
She also was preceded by her sisters, Fern Hunzinger, Gladys Glaspey, Fay Hurt and Ruth Slach; and brothers, Mervin Rummells, Harold Rummells and Donald Rummells.
She is survived by brothers, Philip Rummells of Cedar Rapids and Gene Rummells of Evening Shade, Ark.; as well as sister-in-law, Norma Wells of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
