Arley Ray Blankenburg, 93, of Marion, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral service: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Faith Lutheran Church in Marion with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Officiating: Pastor John Albertson. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arley was born Dec. 24, 1922, the son of Franklin and Leona (Timson) Blankenburg, in Quasqueton, Iowa. He graduated from Quasqueton High School in 1940. Arley served in the U.S. Army during World War II, being discharged in 1946. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1948, with a degree in accounting. Arley then received his CPA certificate in 1950 and worked as a CPA until 1956. He received his M.A. degree in accounting in 1971. Arley retired from Rockwell Collins in 1986, after 25 years of service as an accounting supervisor. He served on the boards and a term of president of Faith Lutheran Church and the Institute of Management Accounting. Arley also served on the board of Family Service Agency and the Hawkeye Chapter of the Iowa Society of CPAs.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Blankenburg; grandson, Travis Blankenburg; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Blankenburg; sisters-in-law, Lois Kerns, Myrna Ross and Dr. Robert and Thelma Votberg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Steven and Robert Blankenburg; parents; and two brothers, Leon and Franklin.
