No valid reason to have winter break

To the editor:
Let's start schools after Labor Day. Since we worry about educational interests and the calendar, and public schools do not believe in Christmas or Hanukkah, there is not a valid reason to have a winter break.
Just celebrate a long weekend for secular New Years and keep the schools open. Then we won't have to worry about 'negative educational impact” of forgetfulness over a religious holiday public schools do not believe in.
When I was a child schools started after Labor Day and ended before Memorial Day. Now we have a Thanksgiving break, spring break, MLK Day. We balanced all those days by eliminating Good Friday and Easter Monday and starting mid-August.
Or convince the legislature to repeal the law.
