Williams, Leo Linn
Leo Linn Williams, 85, of Higley Mansion Care Center, went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with Chaplain Jeremy Hudson of St. Luke's Hospice officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Duane A. (Alice) Williams of Piney Flats, Tenn., Diana L. (Jim) Ashley of Cedar Rapids, Dixie M. (Danny) King of Raleigh, N.C., Connie D. (Brian) Walther of Omaha, Neb., and Suzanne D. (Dennis) Knott of Robins; grandchildren, Jason S. Williams of Bethesda, Md., Holly B. (Scott) Gard of Vinton, Va., Jim R. Ashley Jr. of Marion, Amy L. (Darryl) High of Cedar Rapids, Kelley C. Walther of Bellevue, Neb., Stephanie M. Walther of Lincoln, Neb., Cole J. Knott of Robins and Dylan M. Knott of Robins; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Knussman of Marion; and one brother, Dale (JoAnn) Williams of Fort Dodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Leota.
Leo was born May 20, 1925, in Marion, the son of Arnold L. and Esther A. (Kuhnle) Williams. He graduated from Marion High School. He was united in marriage to Leota McVey Williams on March 29, 1945, during World War II and shared 65 years together. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific and Atlantic on the U.S.S. Rochambeau. After World War II he came home and worked for the Gordan Hatchery until he became a foreman at Read Construction, helping build several homes in the Cedar Rapids and Marion areas. He then used his craftsmanship in many ways at Weber's in Marion, including becoming its framing specialist. He retired as partner in the business in 1986.
As a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church of Hiawatha for over 40 years, he served as a treasurer and was a part of the Champion Zion Bowling League. He was also a member of American Legion Post 298 of Marion. He was very proud for serving his country during World War II.
He had an abundance of faith in God, he loved his family, friends, and enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He had a passion for fishing, growing his roses and spending time with nature.
He was a wonderful wood craftsman, an avid Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed the bond with his family pets.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Hospice or the Marion American Legion Post 298.
