Joel Scott Meek, 43, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa
City following a brief illness. Graveside services will be at a later date.
Scott was born Aug. 15, 1970, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Joel and Janet Hagge Meek.
Scott is survived by his mother, Janet of Buckingham; sister, Diana (Dennis) Bramow of Vinton; brother, Larry of Buckingham; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joel; and brother, Ron.
Having been a diabetic for 36 years, it was Scott's wish to donate his body to the university for research in hopes that through him others will be able to learn and share their knowledge.
Memorials may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDFR.org) or the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.
