The middle of three children, Scott grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; he graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School in 1981, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids in 1988. Family Sundays included church, dining and exploring the music and reading sections of a local bookstore. The Wind and Fire Ministry was also very important to Scott in the past two years. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed driving and camping and was taking flying lessons this year.
