Car with pipe bomb shuts down Interstate 380

Interstate 380 was shut down briefly early Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, after a car stopped by Hiawatha Police Department was found to contain a pipe bomb and methamphetamine precursors.
The car was pulled over at 29th Street NE and I-380 at 4:40 a.m. after it was observed with a different license plate than on its registration, according to Hiawatha Police Sgt. Ben Kamm.
Police removed and rendered the bomb safe with the assistance of the Linn County Sheriff's Office and the Marion Police Department.
The car's passengers, Jason Gladwin, 25, and Glenn Wallace, 29, both of Cedar Rapids, were charged with possession of precursors with intent to manufacture methamphetamines.
The driver, William Harrell, 50, of Cedar Rapids, was additionally charged with improper use of registration, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of explosives.
