Lewis, David 'Gene'
David “Gene” Lewis, 69, of 326 H Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ottumwa, died Nov. 4, 2011, at home in Cedar Rapids. Graveside service and burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa. The family will be present at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday before the graveside service.
He was born April 23, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Osie Leonard and Millie Anna (Beaver) Lewis. He married Connie Houk on June 22, 1963. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1999.
A resident of Cedar Rapids for the past 45 years, he worked at D.C. Taylor Roofing for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly (Kert) Smith of Ottumwa; five sons, David, Bill, Mike, Jeff (Toni) and Tim Lewis, all of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Verna (Charles) Randall of Marion and Florence (Ray) Palmer of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert E., Donald L., Osie L. Lewis Jr. and an infant brother, Carl Lewis; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Hewitt and Vera May Wessel.
