DAVID NICHOLAS "NICK" RYAN

David Nicholas "Nick" Ryan, 82, of Grinnell, died Friday, April 1, 2016, at the University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Nick Ryan Scholarship Fund at Grinnell College, 733 Broad St., Grinnell, IA 50112.
Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Nick was born April 8, 1933, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Joseph and Marie (Stack) Ryan. He was a proud graduate of Missouri Valley High School class of 1951. He later attended Grinnell College and graduated with the class of 1955. In August 1955, he entered the U.S. Navy Air Corp. He worked at Grinnell College from 1959 to 1978 and at the University of Iowa from 1978 to 1990.
He is survived his children, Meaghan (Mike) Houska of Bend, Ore., Lisa Ryan of Iowa City and David (Melissa) of Iowa City; and five grandchildren, Bailey Ryan, Caitlin Ryan, Ellie Farr, Sam Houska and Johanna Houska.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Julia.
