Kucera, Lucille
Lucille Kucera, 89, of Monticello, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11 Saturday morning, June 12, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 10 a.m. The Rev. Edwin Moreano will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jones County Cancer Society, Camp Courageous of Iowa or the United Church of Monticello.
Lucille is survived by her sisters, Lillian Brendes of Lowden and Florence Struck of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband, Otto; her parents; a brother, Lawrence Dreyer; and two sisters, Irene Stansbury and Dorothy Yoder.
Lucille Dreyer Kucera was born July 12, 1920, the daughter of Fred and Frieda Schaefer, Dreyer. She attended the Lowden Public School and graduated with the class of 1937. Following graduation she was employed as a telephone operator for the United Telephone Co. at Lowden, Iowa. On Oct. 12, 1940, she married Otto Kucera of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the couple moved to Monticello, where Otto was employed at the Iowa Electric Co. Otto died in 1950. In 1942, Lucille started working in the office of Iowa Electric Co. as bookkeeper and later customer service representative. She retired in 1984.
She was a member of the United Church of Monticello and in her earlier years was active in various church activates and sang in church choir. She was a member of the original Monticello Starlighters Community Theater, Pythian Sisters, League of Women Voters, and Business and Professional Women's Club, serving as president of the local club and District No. 2, secretary and treasurer. After her retirement, she did volunteer work at Camp Courageous of Iowa.
