Kavanaugh can wait until after election
U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley said he can't foresee anything delaying this week's hearings on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. OK, let's try this! Not that long ago, the senator blocked President Barack Obama's nomination of Judge Merrick Garland, which followed the death of Antonin Scalia.
The reason: 'It only makes sense to vote on the nomination after the presidential election in November.”
Not only did they wait, the nomination never came to fruition because President Donald Trump subsequently nominated Neil Gorsuch, and the Republican Senate confirmed him.
Grassley now thinks there is a different case for this nomination because there is no presidential election. OK, try this! There are midterms and there is the possibility Democrats could take the House and maybe the Senate.
Rather than taking a chance on losing a nominee, rolling forward with this nomination will ensure a controlled judicial environment for the party. The definition for politics is 'never stop being political.”
