Younkers going-out-of-business sales start Friday

Going out of business sales at Younkers and other Bon-Ton Stores Inc. locations will start Friday, the company has announced.

The sales will take place in 212 stores and online for stores that operate under the Younkers, Herberger's, Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson's and Elder-Beerman names. The sales are expected to run for between 10 and 12 weeks.

The sales come after a bankruptcy court judge signed off on the liquidation of York, Penn.-based Bon-Ton. The liquidation means all of Bon-Ton stores, including 17 Younkers stores in Iowa, will have to close no later than Aug. 31. Local affected stores include the Younkers at Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids and the Younkers at Coral Ridge Mall in Cedar Rapids.

Another 38 stores that Bon-Ton owns are already under liquidation, Bon-Ton said. That includes the Younkers at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids.
