Lyle Alfred Boebel of Marion, formerly of Midway, passed away at the Hiawatha Care Center on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at the age of 84. Funeral services with military rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial at Dunkard Cemetery.
He was born on Nov. 19, 1931, to Charles P. Boebel and Elizabeth Achenbach Boebel in Boscobel, Wis. He graduated in 1949, then joined the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He then attended DeVry Tech in Chicago. Lyle was hired by then-Collins Radio and retired from Rockwell Collins in 1994.
In 1964, he was united in marriage to Judy Pearson and to this union two sons were born, Larry (Gina) of Swisher and James (Barb) of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are grandchildren, Nathan, Kory, Brandon, Lindy Boebel and Christie Meier; and many nieces and nephews.
Lyle was active with his sons by coaching Little League baseball and being president of the Alburnett Band Boosters. He found a way to attend his sons' activities and continued to attend his grandchildrens' activities. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and an active member of the Otter Creek Lions Club.
He enjoyed feeding the birds and sitting on the porch watching their antics. Flower gardening was another favorite hobby and not only at his home, but at the Lions Park. He loved watching the Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved making "knuckle" sandwiches for his grandchildren. He had a great collection of Potosi Breweriana.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and their spouses.
